If you were worried Sloclap was done with Sifu, then think again. The martial arts brawler is making its way to Steam and Xbox in March, and it’s coming alongside a free update that’s adding a whole new gameplay mode by the name of Arenas.
According to an IGN announcement, the Arenas update will arrive on all platforms for which Sifu is available, which, by the time of the update’s release, will include PlayStation consoles, Xbox platforms, Switch, and two different PC storefronts. The mode will bring new modifiers, extra moves, and more. You can check out a trailer for it right here.
Sloclap says that completing each of the new mode’s arenas will “unlock a massive new modifiers batch” over time, doubling the current amount of modifiers available in Sifu. In addition, the protagonist’s available moveset will expand, so you’ll be able to use different methods to take down your enemies. Completing Arena challenges will also add new cheats and outfits to the game.
If you’re new to the world of Sifu, it’s a martial arts brawler with roguelite elements. Your quest is to avenge your father, the “sifu” of the title, who has been struck down by former students. You are equipped with an ancient talisman which, when you die, revives you, but ages you up in the process. This also provides one of Sifu’s most unique mechanics: each time you die in the game, you grow older, gaining power in your strikes but losing maximum health in exchange.
Since its release in February this year, Sifu has received a slow trickle of content updates, including one in summer which added new modifiers and a scoring mode to the game. Here’s hoping that Sloclap intends to continue supporting Sifu for the foreseeable future.
You can grab the game right now on PlayStation consoles, Switch, and PC via the Epic Store. It’ll arrive on Xbox and Steam in March.
